OSF Cancer Institute and Proton Therapy Center, Peoria, IL
Tsoi Kobus partnered with OSF HealthCare to realize their vision for a new 190,000 sf Cancer Institute on their main campus. The Cancer Institute will be a regional destination providing interdisciplinary cancer care and brings the first proton therapy treatment to the region.
The facility features telehealth capable exam/consult suites, infusion, diagnostic and treatment modalities, proton beam therapy, and an interoperative HDR Brachytherapy Suite with direct access to dual-energy CT-on-rails and MRI. A new parking garage connects to the building via a transparent walkway which is carefully integrated into the second floor architecture.
At the heart of design are spaces dedicated to programs for wellness and prevention; disease prevention is a guiding principle, woven into all aspects of the design. Spaces dedicated to wellness and prevention include a healing garden, teaching kitchen, exercise room, massage therapy room, a community room for survivorship programs, and a resource center.
In a significant urban design move, the hood over the terrace reaches toward the street, creating a noticeable landmark and beacon of hope as you drive through the campus.
