Marine Biological Laboratory
Master Plan, Woods Hole, MA
Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) is an international center for research, education and training in biology, biomedicine, and ecology. Tsoi Kobus Design’s Master Plan Study built upon a Strategic Plan developed by MBL leadership in 2001, to determine the practical development of three key sites— Woods Hole Village Campus, Oyster Pond Road Campus, and the Falmouth Technology Park—over a ten year period.
Tsoi Kobus Design worked to identify key program needs and developed concepts for each site. The Woods Hole Village campus was divided into three zones—the Lillie, Quadrangle, and Swope Zones—and evaluated for development within each zone. The Oyster Pond Road Campus was evaluated for year-round housing, parking, and support facilities. The Falmouth Technology Park site was determined as a location for autonomous research programs, incubator space, administrative space, and centralized receiving and distribution, serving the Woods Hole Village and Oyster Pond Road Campuses. Sixteen development priorities including targeted renovations, expansion, and facility replacements were determined at the conclusion of the Master Plan Study.
