Cincinnati Children’s Pediatric Proton Therapy Center / Proton Therapy at University of Cincinnati Medical Center
Proton Therapy Facility, Cincinnati, OH
The Proton Therapy Facility on the Liberty Campus will address the unique needs of pediatric patients as well as adults, in a facility that has the adaptability to meet changing technology and care protocols. Pediatric patients will benefit from access to a highly precise treatment modality that minimizes potential neurocognitive shortfalls and damage to healthy tissues often associated with more traditional forms of radiation treatment, as well as reduction in long-term secondary cancers. Special design consideration was given to creating a pediatric care environment that is welcoming to patients of all ages. A variety of spaces were designed to ease wait times and facilitate patient throughput, including support resources to accommodate families and caregivers. Part of a major expansion of the existing cancer treatment programs, this facility will broaden the range of cancer treatment services to include radiation oncology, offering patients more flexibility in choosing options of appropriate care.
